-
list all the reasons why you want to stop, read them every night and tell yourself YOU CAN DO IT
-
try to avoid thinking of how hard it might be
-
set a target date for stopping
-
get family and friends to support you
-
In the morning take a shower straight away rather than lighting up, have juice instead of a cigarette, clean your teeth straight after eating, sit in a no smoking area of the bus or declare your car a No Smoking vehicle
-
at break times go for a walk or drink juice instead of having tea or coffee (caffeine makes you want to smoke); stay away from smokers
-
at lunch sit in a no smoking area and get straight up for a walk after eating
-
try a bit of exercise to wind down instead of a cigarette (you'll feel far more relaxed!); do something interesting such as a fun hobby, sports class or an adult education course; leave the dinner table straight after eating; keep your hands busy and stay active; nibble low calorie snacks and juice or water
-
learn to hate smoking. Don't empty your ashtrays – leave them full so you can remind yourself how nasty cigarettes look and smell
