Park Life

Carter Park

Carter Park is our local ‘Doorstep Green’, developed by local residents and young people.  Together they oversaw the design and development which created a delightful open space for all to enjoy, with excellent seating facilities under attractive mature trees.  Today the park is home to some unusual mosaic work which the Friends of Carter Park Group, the young people and a local artist designed and created to depict local history, prominent landmarks and community involvement.

The Friends of Carter Park is made up of local residents from the West Lane area who have an interest in the development and up keep of the park and meet a few times a year to discuss activities and initiatives that will improve the park further in the future.  For more details or to get involved in the group, call Liveability Development Coordinator Mel Rollinson on (01642) 230555.

Laycock Park

A £315,000 renovation of Laycock Park has helped to breathe new life into this rundown corner of Newport.

£240,000 of WMNT funding, £60,000 of Barratt Homes funding and £15,000 of REACT funding was used to develop the park.  New Kompan play equipment dominates the park from a toddler play area consisting of rocking games, swings and static playing games to a teenage play area where 5 sided swings, a modern roundabout, and a Galaxy climbing facility provide entertainment.  A new ball court replaces the old run-down football area providing seating for spectators. On top of all this, new seating areas, litter bins and a further 55 trees have been planted.
