Project Description:
The Health Promotion Service employs a Community Health Development Worker for West Middlesbrough and a multi-lingual Community Health Promoter.
The service offers a range of activities and health promoting opportunities for local residents including:
- ‘Balance’ weight management and exercise sessions
- Free family swimming sessions for West Middlesbrough residents
- Good Grub Club – a ten-week course giving young people the opportunity to make healthy meals and learn new cookery skills
- Keep fit classes in a range of local venues
- A luncheon club at St Cuthbert’s Youth and Community Centre, held every other Wednesday to provide healthy meals for vulnerable and homeless people
- Stop Smoking Clinic – sessions are offered in conjunction with the Middlesbrough Stop Smoking Service
- Health-related training sessions aimed at young people
- Women’s Improved Shared Health (WISH) Group, with a range of training and complementary therapy sessions
- Youth Café – working with WMNT’s Young People’s Development Team, a group of young people are currently setting up a Youth Café at St Cuthbert’s Youth and Community Centre
- Multicultural Group – which meets on a six-weekly basis and invites guest speakers to provide information on a range of topics
- Support for vulnerable people at risk because of their race, colour or religion
