Reducing drug and alcohol abuse

Theme: Improving Health & Care

Project Description:

The project is designed to improve access to substance misuse services by providing extra locally-based support, assessment and treatment services.

Treatment can be accessed within seven days of referral and most people are visited in their own homes.  There is also a weekly drop-in and prescribing clinic at Whinney Banks and a drop-in clinic at Newport.  Currently 83% of people are staying in treatment for more than 12 weeks, which is higher than the target set nationally.

The project also has a family/carer support worker who can work directly with the carers of substance users.

When Project Starts and Ends: April 2001 to March 2010.

Key Partners: other projects within the WMNT Health and Care Theme, Middlesbrough Primary Care Trust, Middlesbrough Social Services, Cleveland Police, probation service and the voluntary sector.

Total Project Cost: £1,122,000

WMNT Funding For Project: £792,000
