West Middlesbrough Welfare Rights Advice Project

Theme: Improving Health & Care

 

Project Description: A Welfare Rights Officer works with West Middlesbrough residents to help make sure they are receiving all the welfare benefits and tax credits they are entitled to.

 

This comprehensive welfare benefits advice service includes:

  • general advice about claims and entitlements
  • form-filling
  • support when challenging benefit decisions
  • appeal representation

 

Advice is provided through weekly surgeries in local venues and home visits.

 

The Welfare Rights Officer works in partnership with health and social care professionals, other agencies and community representatives to generate appropriate referrals to the project.  Training about welfare benefits is also provided.

 

The Welfare Rights Officer is based at the Civic Centre as part of the Welfare Rights Unit who provide management, professional supervision and support.

 

When Project Starts and Ends: April 2004 to March 2007 and then to be mainstreamed by Middlesbrough PCT
