Neighbourhood Trust Development (including community involvement)

Theme: Investing In Our Neighbourhood

Project Description:

The future of WMNT and the role of the Board is being developed by the Neighbourhood Trust Development Team which is responsible for piloting new ways of working, identifying services which can be delivered and managed by WMNT and encouraging more local people to become ‘community leaders’ and get more involved in the life of their own communities.

A long-term sustainable plan for the regeneration of West Middlesbrough is being developed to ensure that improvements to the neighbourhood are maintained and enhanced after the New Deal for Communities funding comes to an end in 2010.

A key element of the project focuses on the development of the confidence, ability and capacity of Board members and Trust members by assessing their skills and providing training.

In addition, Community Involvement Team staff are on hand to help local residents have their say on how life should be improved in West Middlesbrough.  Officers are developing new ways to reach new people in the community, signposting them to services, and ensuring people get involved with WMNT at a level appropriate to their wishes.

A Residents’ Involvement Survey was carried out in April 2005 to investigate the different levels of involvement that individual residents in West Middlesbrough want to have with WMNT.  The results of the survey are being used to shape future involvement activities and events and offer local people new and different ways to get involved.

When Project Starts and Ends: The original Neighbourhood Trust Development Project set up in 2003 was merged with the current project in April 2005.  Current project runs from April 2005 to March 2007.
