A number of agencies have been involved in the development of Carter Park. WMNT worked with Middlesbrough Council to buy and demolish the former blind school on Stockton Road. This paved the way for Groundwork South Tees to work with residents to develop the park and organise the works.
£200,000 of WMNT funding along with £50,000 from the Big Lottery Fund - through the Countryside Agency’s Doorstep Green programme - and £50,000 from the European Regional Development Fund secured by Groundwork South Tees has seen the transformation of the former blind school on Stockton Road into a park enjoyed by the local community.
Additional touches have now been added to the park, including mosaics created by two local artists who worked with the Friends of Carter Park and local children from the Junior YIP programme to gather their ideas together and plan out and develop the mosaics which now hang proudly on the wall in the park, creating a focal point for visitors.
