Longford Street in Newport is one of many traditional terraced streets in the West Middlesbrough area. Alleygates were installed a few years ago and residents were keen to develop their back alleyway into an area which could be used for social events, relaxing and a safe place where local children could play.
The local residents wanted the alley to be rejuvenated in some way to achieve their goal. With funding from WMNT and working in partnership with West Middlesbrough’s Community Caretakers, Middlesbrough Council and local companies, the alleyway now features planters, evergreen vegetation and trellises which have transformed the space into a green avenue.
