Theme: Making West Middlesbrough Safer

 

Project Description:

This project seeks to create safe walkways and to target security improvements throughout West Middlesbrough to reduce the risk and fear of crime.

 

The project consists of a number of smaller projects and to date has included:

 

  • The installation of lighting and mobile CCTV compatible poles across ‘the Backlands’ in Whinney Banks
  • The installation of new and improved lighting in the South Whinney Banks area
  • The installation of new and improved lighting across Newport
  • The installation of a traffic calming system on St Paul’s Road, Newport to address road safety issues at Newport Primary School
  • The installation of lamp standards in Whinney Banks which will allow for the rapid use of mobile CCTV pods
  • The installation of bollards to prevent vehicle incursion across the area

 

  •  The installation of lighting and improved paving at the A66 underpass between Newport and West Lane

Projects being currently being developed and delivered include:

 

  • New and improved lighting at Acklam Garden City
  • The further installation of bollards

 

  • Improvements to Northern Road lighting

 

When Project Starts and Ends: March 2003 to March 2008

Total Project Cost:

 

WMNT Funding For Project: £250,000 per year.
