Making West Middlesbrough Safer
Project Description:
West Middlesbrough Community Caretakers act as the eyes and ears of the community, patrolling the area and providing hands-on community safety work and environmental improvements in West Middlesbrough.
The Caretakers work throughout Newport, West Lane, and Whinney Banks on a daily basis from Monday to Friday, providing a ‘hands-on’ community safety service, as well as carrying out project work designed to improve the local environment, for the benefit of residents living within West Middlesbrough.
The Caretakers’ number one priority is to help victims of crime, the elderly, and the most vulnerable members of our community. However all residents living in the WMNT boundary are eligible to receive the following services free of charge:
-
A crime prevention survey and security assessment of your home including any other buildings or sheds
-
Provide and fit appropriate security measures including door chains, starbolts, window and door locks
-
Small plumbing jobs, from repairing leaking taps to providing toilet handles and ball valves
If the team can’t deal direct with a particular issue, they will report it to the relevant agencies to make sure it gets dealt with, ensuring that the streets are cleaner and the neighbourhood is safer.
The team also undertakes private or commercial work to generate income as they strive to achieve sustainability after 2010, when the NDC funding comes to an end.
