WORK to breathe new life into neighbourhoods in West Middlesbrough started back in January 2000 when the area landed a £52 million windfall from the government’s New Deal for Communities (NDC)regeneration fund. The NDC programme comes to an end in March 2010 but WMNT intends to continue to make a difference to West Middlesbrough after this time.
Our website provides a flavour of the projects and activities funded by West Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Trust (WMNT) over the last 10 years, what we are doing now, and how residents can work with us in the future to make a difference to the area.

How are residents having their say on the future of WMNT?
WMNT’s government funding will end in 2010. This means that to continue to fund projects in the West Middlesbrough community, WMNT intends to generate money from outside of the area. Compared to the money available under the NDC programme, we will certainly have less money to spend. But we want to spend the money that is available benefiting the community, continuing to improve it, and to safeguard the improvements that have been made over the last ten years.
In January 2009, we began a consultation process with residents of West Middlesbrough to get your views on:
- How you want WMNT to continue to operate after 2010?
- What work you want WMNT to focus its resources on after 2010?
- How you, as a West Middlesbrough resident, want to be involved in shaping how money is spent in your local area?
We asked for residents views using printed questionnaires, telephone and face to face interviews. We also ran open residents meetings.
The views collected through this consultation have formed the basis of WMNT's Succession Strategy - which sets out what we will focus on in the future. You can read a summary of the results here.
