If you are 50 or over and live in West Middlesbrough, we have lots of activities on offer to keep you fit and healthy!
- Fitness fans, people wanting to get in shape or those who just want to enjoy light, gentle exercise can sign up to the West Middlesbrough Health Through Activity Group. It boasts over 30 members who are put through their paces every week with a range of exciting activities including table tennis, line dancing, skittles, darts, basketball, ‘kwik cricket’, carpet bowls and even trampolining. The group – supported by RSVP and WMNT - meets every Friday from 10am to 11.30am at the Neighbourhood Centre, St Paul’s Road, Newport.
For more details call Carol Reynolds on (01642) 231560.
- For anyone who likes to make a splash, there is a weekly swimming session at Acklam Sports Centre, Hall Drive, Acklam from 4pm to 5pm every Friday. Swimmers don’t need to be Olympic standard – just out to enjoy a swim! The WMNT minibus picks up from Newport Neighbourhood Centre on St Paul’s Road at 3.30pm. Contact Ivy on (01642) 298166 or Norman on (01642) 897313 for more details.

- The Walkers and Strollers Group helps get people out and about. The group meets at the Tower Club Newport, formerly The Phoenix Squash Courts Centre, on Mondays at 1:15pm. The group usually splits into two with the ‘walkers’ doing a more demanding trek and the strollers - as the name suggests - taking it more easy and enjoying the views! All the walks led by qualified walk leaders. Future walks include Wynyard, Marske and Redcar, Hemlington Lake, Preston Park and Guisborough. For details of forthcoming walks and walk dates please contact either Arthur Mountain on (01642) 862574 or Jimmy Cooper on (01642) 878435.
