Improving the living environment

WMNT is transforming areas into useable green spaces, tidying up the neighbourhood and helping local people restore a sense of pride in the area.

Key achievements 2004 - 2005

  • An Environmental Projects Officer was appointed and small environmental improvements were fast tracked.
A programme of environmental improvements was approved by the WMNT Board and priorities drawn up for Newport, West Lane and Whinney Banks.
  • A £315,000 revamp of Laycock Park began in February to breathe new life into this corner of Newport and transform it into a vibrant green space for local residents to enjoy for generations to come.
  • The alleyway behind Longford Street was transformed into an attractive, safe ‘community garden’ for families and children to enjoy, thanks to small scale environmental improvements carried out by WMNT.
  • Environmental works are improving the look and feel of our neighbourhoods, from the reinstatement of the People’s Park to the creation of parking bays for residents.
