Over the last 9 years, WMNT has transformed areas of West Middlesbrough into useable green space, tidying up the neighbourhood and helping local people restore a sense of pride in the area.
Our objective is:
- To improve the environment of West Middlesbrough for the benefit of people who live, work and visit the area
Partnership working has lead to the transformation of derelict and underused open spaces into new community parks and sports facilities and smaller scale schemes are helping to improve residents’ parking, tidying up alleyways and adding a splash of colour to the area.
West Middlesbrough now boasts an all-weather sports pitch, a brand new community park and a revamped park and playground area which has been transformed into a vibrant open space for all to enjoy.
WMNT's commitment to the environment is ongoing now, and after the end of the NDC programme in 2010. Much still remains to be done, to ensure that improvements are long lasting and that residents continue to have a real say in how their neighbourhood is improved. WMNT's Neighbourhood Management Group is instrumental in advising on plans for environmental projects, as are resident consultations which are undertaken prior to any project.
In 2008, WMNT ran its UChoose programme for the first time, giving residents the opportunity to come up with their own ideas for projects to make their area cleaner, greener or safer. The programme ran again in 2009. 2009 has also seen makeovers to two further gated alleyways, bringing the total for West Middlesbrough to four, since our first makeover in 2004.
